Freytag's Triangle...

If you guys aren't familiar with Freytag's trianle then let me enlighten you. There are three sides to a triangle, and in each side there is a certain of the story. First comes the introduction, then is the peripeteia, and last is the resolution. There are also things in between. In between the introduction and peripeteia are the initial conflict, reversal, and climax. Between the peripeteia and resolution is the falling action. In "feed" the introduction was about a group of friends during spring break. After a lot of crazy things happening, they meet Violet, the main character's girlfriend. The initial conflict deals with Violet and the main character's relationship. At first, they began talking about how their relationship is going to work, and now it is about if they going to be together for a while. So far I have not yet recognized a reversal in my book, but once I do find one I'll let you know. The climax of my book was when Violet tells her boyfriend that there was something wrong with her feed and has not fixed itself yet. When a technichian told her that it will heal by itself in a week or so, it didn't. After a month, she finally tells someone about her problem, not even her parents know about still, which leads to the peripeteia. The most random event in the book was when Violet took her boyfriend to meet her parents. He was supposed to pick her up at the mall, but she never so he went to her house where her crazy father was working at the time. He didn't meet the mother because she actually went to her workplace.

Conflicts in "feed"

Today in class, we talked about internal and external conflicts. We took examples from the movie just finished yesterday. The assignment given to us (the class) was to get examples from our books instead of the movie. The first conflict that will be discussing about is man versus man. In my book, the only conflict that the main character faces against another person is when him and his friends were at this party on the moon. While all the people at the party were having fun, one man scrambled everybody's feeds and began to control what came through the feeds. The next day some government officials showed up to fix everyone's feeds. The next conflict will man versus nature. My book started out with Earth being totally different from now, with highways in the sky and planes in outer space. Everything on the Earth is either dead, nonfunctional, or still rotting away. When Violet is in the hospital after the incident at the party, a doctor began to talk to her about her feed. She noticed that past the window behind the doctor was a garden full of grey, rotten plants. The reason why all the plants were dead was because there was not enough oxygen near the ground for them to survive. I believe that reason why humans created highways in the sky was because there was no oxygen reaching people's lungs. The third conflict that I will be discussing is man versus himself. This also deals with Violet and the doctor. What the doctor was telling was that her feed was badly damaged inside her brain and would take several days for it to repair itself. After a few weeks, she can feel the feed still being broken, which doesn't let her function normally. So far the book just stopped talking about this situation and will probably come back to it. The fourth conflict is going to be man versus fate. The only example that I can think of is that the main character believes Violet to be his one true love. Ever since the hospital incident, they began seeing each other or dating. They go to the mall together and also visit each other's parents whenever they to each others' houses. The final conflict I have for my book is man versus society. Nothing serious has happened to any of the characters, except for the that one person who tried to mess up everybody's feed. The authorities said the reason this man tried to take over people's feed was because he believed that the feeds created something that would basically lead to perfection. This man also feared that the mass media was taking control over their lives and influencing the way they think and do things. Until next time my eager fans...

My final thoughts about The Empire Strikes Back

Today in class we watched the ending of episode four, The Empire Strikes Back. After watching this, the class discussed on some thematis elements that the movie delt with. The one I was trying to point out was a specific theme from the good versus evil theme. The example Mr. Nail used in class was Darth Vader versus Luke Skywalker. The only problem about this theme is that Vader is Luke's father. This is problem because in essence, Vader is not evil or has conflicts inside him that enable him to do certain things.

The Empire Strikes Back...

Today we watched some more of Star Wars episode five. So far the rebels had to flee from the Hoth system so the Rebels would not get captured by Darth Vader and his minions. Out of all the Star Wars movies, I believe that this one has the most themes in it. Besides the theme of good versus evil & black and white, the one that I am going to talk about is dependency. I realized that in "The Empire..." everybody is depending on their technology. The best example that I can think of right now is Darth Vader himself. This man is literally living off his dark looking costume. If you just look at what he is wearing, you can tell that there must be something wrong with him. Another example is when the Rebels were trying to get past the star destroyers and slowing down the Empirial's ground forces, which didn't really work at all. This movie also shows that every person of high authority is dependent of someone els. In other words, everybody depends on each other. In the Empirial side, Darth Vader is always telling other authorities to do his bidding or they suffer a "forceful" death, which brings me to my next theme. There relationships in every movie created, but there are some that stick out sometimes. Like, for example, Han Solo and Princess Leia's relationship is fairly odd. My teacher, Mr. Nail, tells me that all relationships that involve love always start out with arguements. Well, if he is right then Solo and Leia must have a lot love between them before they even knew that they liked each other. I guess I can call it quits for today. Until next time my eager fans...

Today's in-class discussion: Faith

In the book that I'm reading, "feed," the main character thinks he has finally found the girl of his dreams. Since it is spring break, he tries to take her to all the hot spots around. Every time the author talks about Violet he makes their relationship look like it's going somewhere, but in Marty's perspective he thinks that his friendship is going nowhere at all. I believe that Marty has a lot of faith to think he is going go out with Violet because so far everything he does just goes wrong....faith in that Violet is his one true love...faith in that everything will come back together.....
